Last day of 2013

Happy 2014, Everyone!  But really.  How can it be 2014?  I remember the freak-out of Y2K like it was yesterday.  Remember how the world was going to end because all the computers weren't going to be able to handle the transition of millenniums?  That was weird.  And I don't mean to point out the obvious, but that was 14 years ago.  Wow.

Moving on.

I wanted to quickly share with you how we spent our last day of 2013.  But first, I'm going to tell you that I'm writing this post from home.  And sitting on my couch. Alone. In my pj's.  With 2 blankets on.  A baby monitor nearby.  And some sort of new years eve show on tv.  All in all, it's not a bad way to ring in the new year.  I'm at the stage in my life when staying home is actually a welcome invitation, because after meeting the needs of 2 small children all day, I definitely only have enough energy for sitting.  So that's what I'll do.  I also want to give a quick shout-out to my ever-awesome husband, who is ringing in the new year on call at the hospital.  Which, if you are not familiar, means that he's sitting in a reading room being bombarded with CT scans and X-rays of people who come into the ER.  As you can imagine, tonight is probably not the slowest night the ER has ever seen, which means, he will be exhausted tomorrow.  (Another fun tidbit about how crappy residency is: he's been at the hospital since 8 this morning and won't come home til 8 tomorrow morning.  So that's a long work 'day'.  He even eats at his desk while reading images, so he doesn't really even have time for a break.  If he's lucky and it's not too busy, he gets to take a nap at night since there are usually two residents on call at one time.  Bottom line, say a little prayer for the people that choose this as their life calling....it's not an easy one.)  Missing him right now, but luckily I was able to send him a quick phone smooch earlier, so it could be worse I guess.

Since our love was at work today, the little ones and I played it pretty low-key at home today.  When we play it low-key we spend hours on end in the playroom, moving from one thing to the next while listening to music and drinking coffee (speaking for myself here, obv).  I have to tell you that we literally had to rearrange the entire playroom to accommodate all the toys these two people got over Christmas.  I'll have to show you pics soon.  But let's just say my desk got the boot and a new cubicle was purchased to organize the goods.  It's nuts.  I can't even count the number of trucks in that room.....but I digress...

So while we were in Omaha, Jude sort of fell in love with Foosball.  Oddly enough, both Grandma and Nana have a table at their house, and he begged everyone to play it with him when we were there.  While he begged, he twisted his little wrists in the foosball-playing motion and it was pretty hard to refuse.  Another hard thing to refuse.....the purchase of this mini tabletop foosball game that we randomly found while browsing at Marshalls yesterday (we were browsing Christmas clearance, go fig).  It was on clearance....and was literally placed there for him.  He was so excited.  I'm not kidding.....so excited.  And he plays it all. the. time.  And in case you've ever wondered what a 2 year old looks like while playing foosball, I captured a few images:

As a mom, I just wish he was a little more into it.  Kidding.  I don't think it's possible to be any more into it.  The good news for me is that I taught him how to play "all my myself" and he seems to keep himself pretty entertained (mommy for the win!).

So besides all the new toys the kids received for Christmas, they also lucked out when mom was reading Better Homes and Gardens mag yesterday and got inspired to transform a wall in our house into a giant chalkboard.  That's right, I decided to paint a wall during naptime....because I saw a pic in a mag and just so happened to have chalkboard paint in the basement.  And because the area needed some spruce-ige and was bothering me anyway.  But it is the perfect spot for a chalkboard because the area is somewhat hidden, but visible from the kitchen, making it a great spot for Jude to color while I cook and clean, etc.  So far, it's a huge hit!

Not regretting it one bit!

Besides all that, we made pizza, put the girlie down early (rhyme!) and cuddled on the couch and watched Up, which always makes me cry at the end because the little boy doesn't have a dad to give him the badge.  Thank goodness for good old Mr. Frederickson!

Did I tell you this girl eats puffs now?  She's a maniac about them!
This is the time when he asked for chocolate chips...

...and this is the time when he had chocolate all over his face.

Hope you all had a wonderful and safe transition into the new year!  I don't know about you, but I'm feeling good about 2014!
