block party

Have I told you how much I love our neighborhood?  If not, here goes:  I love it a lot.  It's absolutely perfect for us.  We really had no idea where to look when we found out we would be moving down here, but we immediately fell in love with the charm of this part of town and I'm so glad we did.

There's a lot to love: convenient location, "firetruck" park right down the street (where every mom is so nice and friendly...I have my park mom friends aka I get to socialize with someone older than 2 aka it literally keeps me sane), cute brick houses, lots of young families and lots of fun people.

The thing I might like the most, however, is the fact that I really know my neighbors.  For me, this is huge.  Since Chris is in his 2nd year of Radiology now, he works a billion hours a week, including overnights at the hospital (which are pretty much the dumbest things ever, including the fact that I'm alone with two kids with no family in town, and the fact that he's out of commission the whole next day because he has to sleep and/or he's just super tired).  I really had to build myself up for this reality.  What girl/mom isn't a mess when it comes to creaky house noises in the middle of the night?  But you get the idea.  The point is, I feel much better knowing that if anything were to happen, or if I needed anything, I'd be able to call up my neighbors and they'd be there in no time to help!  Peace of mind is everything, isn't it?

So needless to say, since we have some super awesome families on our street, it was really fun to all come together and take over the street for our annual block party.  There are 4 boys all around Jude's age that pretty much took over the party.  When I told Jude he was going to get to play with them in the street, he couldn't contain his excitement.  It was a huge mommy fail to mention it at breakfast, because I didn't stop hearing, "Outside street party mommy? Outside street party now pease mommy" until 1pm when the darn thing started.  We were seriously like the 2nd family there because Jude was such a party animal.  Needless to say, it was everything and more for that kid.  A police car even showed up, for heaven's sake!  (Funny story about that: Jude wouldn't go near it.  He's all obsessed with them until he gets the chance to see one up close and personal and then BAM!...instant tears and 'no danks, no danks!!"  We were able to get somewhat close when the officer handed him m&ms.  Jude won't stop talking about how the officer gave him chocolate...)

Anyway, do I even have to mention that we didn't catch a nap that afternoon?  So of course it was Meltdown City when we went inside.  But until then, it was pretty fabulous!

Here they are, folks.  Standing far, far away as they watch the police car drive off, lights flashing and everything

Driving his car in the street was a highlight.  I'd also like to draw your attention to the chalk all over the car.  Jude started coloring it one day and goes, "Oh now happy car!"  Now he refers to this car as the 'happy car'.  "See, momma, happy car!"

And there they go, driving off into the sunset...

I would've gotten more pics, but between the balloon chasing and car driving, I was occupied.  Also, I don't think I held Lucy for more than 5 minutes while I was there.  I felt weird, but was totally ok with it...

Speaking of that girl, here's a nice shot of my view today

Don't you just love that drool?  We've got a lot of it as this little one is growin' some toofers.  Already has 2 down on the bottom!

Have a good Wednesday!
