So my mom makes this amazing dessert called better than pumpkin pie. It's pretty much the greatest dessert ever and totally lives up to its name. What's the point other than the fact that it's good?
Well, today I had several computer and library classes for the first time since Thanksgiving break. Remember how I have all the students this year? (The current 6th graders were my first class in 2nd grade. Crazy, I know).
Anyway, I had the 5th grade for computers this morning, which was the class I had in 2nd and 3rd grade (yes, had them 2 years in a row!) and a student walks in and asks, "So, did you have some better than pumpkin pie this year?" I hadn't talked about that dessert at school for, I don't know, I guess 2 years. I turned to him and said, "YES! How did you know?" Then he goes, "Well, it's your favorite, I remember you telling us about it in 3rd grade." I was shocked. How did he remember that? I was so excited about this that I literally asked him, "How in the world did you remember that?" He wasn't exactly sure......neither was I. Everyone else sort of remembered and then someone asked, "So what's in better than pumpkin pie?" To which the one student replied, "Pumpkin pie and vanilla cake batter!" He was right! I couldn't believe it! So naturally I turned to him and said, "You've had it??" He replied, "No, I just remember you telling us what's in it." Couldn't believe it. How cute is that?
Moral of the story: They're listening, so make sure everything you say to a child is something you want them to remember. Cause there is a good chance they might.
