My Sweetness

Sometimes,
when my baby is fast asleep,
 I miss him.

And when that happens, I watch videos like this....

....to remind myself how cute he is.

And then,
I suddenly remember how nice it is to fold laundry without someone 'helping'

Here's to midnight laundry seshes!
(Because for some odd reason you and your helper don't seem to get much done during the day)

Shoes

Although I had a son, I'm happy to report he shares my love of shoes. Praise the Lord! Someone in this house understands!

In the morning he'll find a pair of shoes, usually on the stairs, and bring them to me to put on. Then he'll go around the house and find other shoes and bring them to me.

This only means one thing, I better buy a few more pairs. Jude and I know you can never have enough!

Spying

I'm sorry, but my latest hobby is watching Judebug on the monitor when I put him down for a nap. It is so entertaining! Right now he has the hiccups, so that's cute. A second ago he was just laying on his back kicking the railings, so that was naughty. And at this current moment he is trying to climb out, so that's adventurous! He has lost his pacu by now so I'm curious if he'll actually go to sleep. I'll let you know!

It just happened

People, this is the moment I've been waiting for since I was like 15. As of 2 hours ago, when I walked out those school doors, I became a full time mom!

I am going to miss everyone at St. Joan so much though! Seriously, how did I get so blessed to work with so many dynamic, fun, inspiring people, each one bringing something so uniquely special to our amazing community. If you are one of those amazing people i'm talking about, thank you for everything. Drinks and chatting (a few of my favorite things!) are in order!

With that being said, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about the next chapter of my life. I find it to be the biggest blessing to be able to stay home and raise Jude. I can't believe I'm here!

So, let the good times roll, buddy!

St. Louis

We took a quick weekend trip to St. Louis to check out our house one last time before the big move.  No one had a better time than Judebug!  He got to explore his new house, his new park, his new yard...and last, but certainly not least, his new Target.  Which, if you know anything about my family, you know was an important exploration.

We left Omaha after work on Friday at 5.  That meant we didn't get to St. Louis til 11:30.  But driving at night = sleeping baby, so hey, not a bad drive.  Plus, we listened to Bill O'Reilly's new book, Killing Lincoln.  Super good!  I love American history so it was interesting to hear all these facts about the Civil War, and Lincoln, that I had no idea about.

Anyway, we woke up the next morning and this happened.

I need to mention a few things about what's going on in these pics.  First, please take note of the 'music'.  Jude is obsessed.  Obsessed I tell you!  Grandma discovered this obsession and he simply demands that it be turned on at all times.  I mean all times. His face lights up when he sees the CD player.  Or when he hears you say that magic word:  music.  Absolutely presh.  So needless to say, we did not travel without it.

Secondly, before you assume our small child ventured to mardi gras this spring, I would like to explain the koozie around his neck.  Surprisingly, we did not travel with this.  Lucky for Jude, the previous owners left a whole drawer of koozies within reach of the wee one.  He discovered the stash last time.  Did I mention he was a great helper?  Anyway, he likes this one the best.  I can't say I blame him.  It is pretty awesome.  A beaded necklace?  What more could you want in a koozie?  Honestly guys, we woke up, turned on the music (per Jude's request), and not two seconds later the man was walking around the house sporting this look.  He remembered his stash, and his koozie of choice.  Smart boy!

Our day continued with a walk to the park, where we explored swings and slides.  I decided right then and there we would continue to explore those a lot more when we moved down here.

We also thoroughly explored the cabinets, because every new house needs a good cabinet exploration.

Pardon me for taking your picture.  You better get used to it, buster.

That's more like it.

And sometimes, after you've refused to take a nap the entire day, your exploring really weighs you down.  And you literally crash on the kitchen floor.

We headed home around noon on Sunday.  Don't worry, we remembered our shades.

This smirk says it all.

But we can be serious in our shades, too.

Sorry, I just couldn't have enough sunglasses pics.

Oh you thought you were done?

He kept them on longer than I thought.  Which explains why I have so many pictures....I thought the moment would end sooner, so I kept snapping away.  But my boy knows what's up.

We made it home safely to the same messy house we left.  Funny how that happens.  We were thankful for a super fun weekend and can't wait to be back in our house.  It's already feeling like home!

PS.  Tomorrow is my last day of school.  Last day!  It's a weird feeling.  I'm happy because I won't have to leave my baby each day, or pack that dreaded bag, but I'm sad because gosh darn it, I'm really gonna miss those kids.  Life has a strange way of being bittersweet, doesn't it?  I'll be working until Friday in the library, though, packing up my stuff.  If I don't become a master packer by the end of this year, then I'm afraid I'll never be a master packer (then again, I'd be ok with that too).

haircut

Someone got his first haircut Monday night.  I gotta admit, it was way overdue, but how could I part with those curly blonde locks?

from this:

to this:

Oh, it was emotional.  What in the name am I going to do when he goes to Kindergarten?  Also, you better bet your bottom dollar I cut it myself.  There's no way I could justify spending 20 bucks on a baby haircut!  Totally against my nature. And can I let you in on a little secret?  His daddy goes to the same barber.  Just another way to save the moola!

Morning

Just a glimpse at a morning in our life. (When I'm not working...oh summer, you can't come soon enough! {4 more days. totally counting})

So Jude can't get enough of seeing himself on the iPad. You know it's bad when your 11 month old comes up to you and demands to see the baby. I swear he says baby (ok not really, but super close). He does, however, have daddy down pat.  He spends a good part of his time walking around the house in circles with his sippy cup saying 'daaaaaa-deeee'.  Getting cuter and cuter with his talking everyday! The other cute thing he's doing now: following directions. Please note that when I ask him if I can have the remote, he gladly hands it over. That's right, learning to follow directions early! Must be the teacher in me.

A lesson in parenting

When changing a huge poo poo diape, it is often wise to check and make sure there are enough wipes in the container to handle the job. Otherwise you might end up like me: helpless, with no other choice than to let your poo poo butt child run around the room so you can grab the next package of unopened wipes, because of course you would need to open a new package at this exact time.

Just a little word to the wise.

But hey, we're all cool now.
